Podręcznik obejmuje naukę słownictwa i terminologii prawniczej, gramatyki charakterystycznej dla języka prawniczego, korespondencji prawniczej oraz tworzenia dokumentów prawniczych.

1.    People in the law

1.1    In court

In court we have a judge and parties to the case.

PARTIES TO THE CASE:

Sometimes we have a jury i.e. (that is) 6-12 people with no legal education. They are called jurors. They decide if the defendant is guilty or innocent.

The lawyers who represent the defendant, advocates, are called barristers or solicitors in England and attorneys in the USA. Barristers generally represent their clients in court. Solicitors can represent their clients in lower courts. They prepare legal documents and give legal advice to their clients. When they represent and defend their clients in court, they are also called defence counsel. They ask people who know something about the case, witnesses, to give evidence in a trial.

Exercise 1
